Not really! I helped them unload their stuff, but we didn’t have mad hangs or anything. I’m pretty shy around cool musician sorts.

I spent most of the day hauling amps around, setting up drums and plugging in mics. It wasn’t as glamourous and exciting as I thought be, though I don’t know what I was expecting. Highlights: Yuck, Anna Calvi, SBTRKT, and when I could get away from my stage - Pyjama Club and The Drums. I admired The Horrors skinny legs from afar. All the band riders requested fancy cheese. My favourite was Twin Shadows’s request for a movie on VHS cassette to watch after the show.

I’m doing sound at Laneway with SAE today! Nervous. Excited. NERVCITED. I hope I do a good job and do not get lynched by angry hipsters.

“Koreans are big drinkers!” observed a chef at work last night, whose kitchen staff are all from the same mighty Asian land as me.

“This tiny Korean girl I knew was about 48kg and reckoned she could drink as much as I could. So we went to a Korean restaurant and packed away 13 bottles of soju. When we got up to leave, I fell over a table. I can’t remember how I got home. I woke up the next morning with a broken nose!”

My adoptive Mum is mostly Irish descent and Dad’s got German ancestry. And we all live in Australia.

I’m sure there’s a nice message underlying this, like what’s the point of racism when most cultures enjoy doing the same stupid, irresponsible but fun stuff, and we all end up falling over with sore heads and regrets anyway?

So I can’t think of any better way to celebrate my racial background and my home than going to the bar with my best friends to destroy my liver. Good day!
